Uncertified "Data Guy"

I've spent the past 13 years in back office operations at Bank of America, where I've earned a reputation as "the data guy"—the person teams turn to when they need a new macro, need to troubleshoot why someone's automation broke, or want to calculate complex metrics. Over the years, I've taught myself VBA, Tableau, Access databases, Power Query, and eventually worked my way into an actual data role using Microsoft SQL Server, Python, and AI tools.

But my real passion shows up in the projects I build at home. I've created a fantasy soccer website to track league stats, built a Tinder-style app for baby names that helped my wife and I narrow down options for our three kids, and even simulated entire baseball seasons in 2020 when the real season got canceled so our fantasy league could keep playing.

Since AI tools like Claude became available, I've leveled up even further—refactoring the backend of my fantasy soccer site to make more sense, creating a spelling test helper for my son that shows him a happy husky for correct answers (and a sad dog for wrong ones) to make studying less frustrating, and building a hotdog tracker so he can log every dog he eats in 2026.

All that is to say... I'm not a formally trained software engineer and "Data Guy" obviously wasn't ever a real job title. Half the time I don't know what I'm doing but I try to approach problems with "I don't know but I can find out" mindset.

Creating a space like this where I keep track of all the tools and skills I've picked up along the way seems like a good thing to know how to do. And maybe someday it'll even inspire a few people to start building their own projects too.
